1. Hike Through Caves to the Talava Arches
One of the most iconic sights of Niue, Talava Arches is home to a huge natural arch spanning some 35m (116ft) across the reef. Getting there is an adventure in itself on a sea track through the forest then through a series of caves.

2. Have a Snorkel at Matapa Chasm

3. Do a Niue Orientation Tour

5. Swim at the Stunning Limu Pools

6. See the Pinnacles and Sandy Palm Oasis of Togo Chasm
One of Niue’s longest sea tracks, the Togo Chasm Sea Track is well worth the 30-45 minutes journey. Start with a walk through the forest before emerging on pinnacled clifftops. Then climb down a rung ladder to an oasis of coconut palms.
Location: 4km (2.5 miles) north of Hakupu in the Huvalu Forest Conservation Area.
7. Swim with Humpback Whales

8. Get in the Water with Spinner Dolphins
Whatever the season, you can swim with Niue’s resident pods of spinner dolphins. Dolphin swimming in Niue involves holding onto a boat’s tow ropes to keep up with the dolphins in the water.

9. Trek Down 146 Steps to Anapala Chasm

10. Indulge in Authentic Sushi, New York-style Pizzas or Middle Eastern Cusine at Kaiika
Niue certainly has no lack of foodie experiences, one of the most surprising of which is at Kaiika. A must is their sushi prepared by a Tokyo chef, while their New York-style pizzas and Morrocan rotisserie chicken give reasons to return.

13. Snorkel at the Ancestory Bathing Pool of Avaiki Cave

33. Join the Locals for Crafting with the Niue Council of Women
Wednesday is weaving day at Makini Hall where the Niue Council of Women gets together to do all sorts of handicrafts. Visitors are free to watch. There is also a weaving lesson at the Scenic Matavai Resort once a week.

34. Visit the Historic Peniamina Grave Memorial
One of several historical sites to visit around Niue, Peniamina’s Grave Memorial commemorates the Niuean who introduced Christianity to Niue. There is also a public holiday dedicated to him.

35. Watch the Sunset with a Drink at the Hio Cafe & Bar

Sunday is a day of worship in Niue and visitors are welcome to join the experience at the island’s church services. You can’t help but be moved by the choirs’ harmonies.

37. Bike Through the Bush on the Vinivini Bike Trail
Another awesome bike trail in Niue, the Vinivini Bike Trail (Bike Track 5) loops through the Huvalu Forest Conservation Area taking you well off the beaten track.

38. Go for a Reef Walk Down the Togulu Sea Track
To access one of Niue’s picturesque beaches, take the Togulu Sea Track in Tamakautoga. It’s a good spot for reef walking, as mentioned in the 6 Best Reef Walks in Niue.

39. Admire the Art at the Hikulagi Sculpture Park
The free outdoor Hikulagi Sculpture Park is well worth a visit when road tripping on the east coast of Niue. Artwork is made from recycled rubbish.

41. Spot Whales and Dolphins from the Whale Lookouts
Niue has signposted whale lookouts all over the island. See whales between July and September and dolphins year-round. Note that most of the coin-operated binoculars at the lookouts don’t work.

42. Discover the Hidden Gem of the Motu Sea Track
A little-known sea track, the Motu Sea Track is well worth doing. At the end of a 1.4km (0.9 miles) bush road, follow a rocky bush trail to an arch in the cliffs and a ladder to access the reef below.
Location: Signposted between Liku and Lakepa.
43. Pick Up a Pot of the World’s Cleanest Honey
Niue is known to have the healthiest honey bees in the world. Pick up a pot of their honey and even take it home with you when you get a quarantine certificate.

44. Walk Through the Natural Arch of the Tautu Sea Track
Another beauty on the east coast, the Tautu Sea Track leads through an archway onto a stunning reef. It’s one of the best places on the island to watch the sunrise.
Location: Liku, the access road is from the northeast corner of the village green left of the white house.
45. Visit Niue Primary School for Their Friday Morning Assembly
Every Friday morning at 8.45am, visitors are invited to the Niue Primary School morning assembly where the children perform cultural songs and dance.
Location: Next to the Niue High School, approximately 1.5km (one mile) from Alofi – turn off at the Police Station.
46. Visit the Ebony Studio and Join Their Rainforest Tour

47. Climb Down the Ladder to a Snorkelling Pool on the Amanau Sea Track
Alofi has many fantastic sea tracks, that we mention in detail in the 7 Best Sea Tracks in Alofi. One of our favourites is the Amanau Sea Track with its cave cut into the cliff and a good pool for snorkelling at low to mid tide.
Location: South Alofi, just before the Pacific Way Bar before entering Alofi town.
48. Visit the Historical Site and Whale Watching Lookout at Tomb Point
Tomb Point not only holds the grave of two Niuean kings within its grounds but there is a picnic area on the clifftops with an excellent lookout for whale watching. Visiting is one of the 10 Must-Dos in Alofi.

49. Browse the Exhibitions at Taoga Niue Museum
The Taoga Niue Museum holds an array of artefacts, such as treasures from World War One, historical woven wares and more. The museum is one of the 10 Free & Cheap Things to Do in Niue.

50. Take the Sea Track Down to Vaila Cave

51. See the Site Where Captain James Cook Attempted to Land on Niue
Opaahi is the site where British explorer, James Cook, attempted to land on Niue three times in 1774. There is an interpretation panel telling the story of the site on the Opaahi Sea Track.

54. Check Out the Laufoli Umu Pit
On the east coast of Niue, the Laufoli Umu Pit is nestled in the Huvalu Forest Conservation Area. Visitors to the site can see a distinct dip of the historic umu pit in the ground.

55. Have a Stroll Along Hio Beach

61. See Human Remains at the Anaana Burial Cave
See an example of one of the many caves early settlers in Niue used to use. While some caves were used as protection, separate caves like the Anaana Burial Cave were used to lay the dead to rest.

62. Watch the Sunset from the Omahi Sea Track
The Omahi Sea Track is a short adventure down a rocky trail, bringing you out onto the coastline with sweeping views on either side. It’s a great place to watch the sunset.

63. Pick Up a Chinese Takeaway from Wok on the Rock
An interesting little spot, Wok on the Rock serve all of their meals in non-plastic takeaway containers. What’s more, the restaurant has an ever-changing menu of Asian cuisine throughout the evening.

64. Find the World’s Smallest Cove Down the Togalupo Sea Track
Located on the northern outskirts of Alofi, the Togalupo Sea Track is a short stroll down to what we like to think is the world’s smallest bay!
Location: Opposite Yolos Accommodation, approximately 1.5km (one mile) north of Alofi town centre.
65. Enjoy the View from Ana’ana Point
One of the many lookouts worth pulling the car over for in Niue is Ana’ana Point, offering expansive views of Niue’s ever-impressive rocky coastline.

66. Pop into Kauhi Krafts

72. Whale Watch and Explore the Reef on the Hikutavake Sea Track

A cultural phenomenon, the kaloama season is always an exciting time to be on the island. It’s when juvenile goatfish spawn along Niue’s shores.

84. Get a Photo with the Giant Uga Outside of the Swanson Supermarket

Location: Tapeu-Porritt Road, just northeast of Hanan Airport.
85. Try Nane (Niuean Porridge)
This local dish is typically served for breakfast, made with coconut flesh and arrowroot. Nane has a similar consistency to porridge or a dumpling. It is sometimes for sale at the Niue Market.
Location: Niue Market, on the main road of Alofi next to the Niue Tourism Visitor Information Centre.
86. Explore the Caves Storing Vaka on the Uluvehi Sea Track
A short unsealed bush road signposted from Mutulau takes you to the start of the Uluvehi Sea Track with two small caves storing vaka (canoes) and featuring limestone formations.

87. Try Night Diving
Night dives provide a whole new experience, allowing you to see nocturnal marine critters. Both of Niue’s dive operators offer night dives from shore, typically from Alofi.

88. Go for a Swim Down the Namukulu Sea Track
Accessed by a concrete access road, the Namukulu Sea Track leads to a nice little swimming spot. It’s best to swim at low tide, but don’t swim if there are large swells coming in from the west.

89. Explore Ulupaka Cave on Tali’s Cave Tour

90. Visit a Tropical Garden on the Vaipouli Garden Tour

91. Do Some Whale Watching and Check Out the Vaka on the Makefu Sea Track
Yet another stunning sea track in Niue, the Makefu Sea Track is a set of steps leading down to where locals store their vaka. The track is also a good whale and dolphin watching spot.

92. Watch People Fishing (or Have a Go Yourself) from Alofi Wharf
The only place in Niue where you can fish without a license, Sir Robert’s Wharf (Alofi Wharf) is often a hive of activity for Niue’s fisherfolk – except on Sundays and cargo ship days, of course.

93. Catch a Spitroast or Burger Night at the Crazy Uga Cafe & Bar

94. Stop by the Food Stalls
Local produce stalls crop up around Niue now and again. If it’s not fresh drinking coconut stalls then it’s usually vanilla stalls, such as Koefaga Vanilla. Have some cash for the honesty box!

Niue gets many of its supplies by a cargo ship that docks at Alofi Wharf once a month. On this day, the island is buzzing activity with heavy vehicles transporting containers around the island and new supplies being the talk of the town.
