A unique restaurant and a special Sunday event, the Washaway Cafe at Avatele Beach is an honesty bar. Write down your food order and table number at the kitchen, where you can treat yourself to some of the island’s most affordable burgers and pizzas, home-baked fish focaccia, and more! Help yourself to drinks at the bar then, once you’re done, let the bar staff know what you had to pay either cash or EFTPOS (the EFTPOS system is sometimes down so have cash as backup). The Washaway Cafe is only open on Sundays from 11am until everyone goes home.

With an ever-changing menu, there’s always a reason to try Wok on the Rock time and time again. Enjoy Asian cuisine, with examples including beef noodles, fresh tuna poke and fish curry, all of which is served in non-plastic takeaway containers. Note that vegetarian options are not always on offer. Wok on the Rock is open Tuesday to Friday for lunch and Thursday to Saturday for dinner.

The Crazy Uga Cafe offers rustic dining in Alofi with stunning views of a tranquil bay. Also providing sensational views, the Vaiolama Cafe is perched atop a 30m cliff with its own mini golf course. The cafe pours a refreshing range of milkshakes and smoothies, as well as hot drinks to complement the fresh sandwiches and wraps from the cabinet. Join them for one of their Sunday specials, such as rotisserie chicken, or pop in for Thursday drinks where Happy Hour is between 4pm and 6pm.
