Today, find the perfect balance of rest and adventure with scuba diving and an island massage. Or you could just skip one if it’s not your thing. We like to give you choices on this 5-day Niue adults-only itinerary!
You don’t need to worry about being stuck with families on a scuba diving trip in Niue, which, thankfully, has its age limits. See the stunning coral and marine life vividly displayed in Niue’s crystal clear waters – some of the clearest in the world thanks to the porous limestone-makeup of the island, which has also created underwater chasms and caves to explore. There are two PADI-accredited dive operators are available in Niue, which you can read up on in The Guide to Scuba Diving in Niue to get the full picture.
After an action-packed dive or, if you want to simply make this today’s activity, get some much-deserved R&R time with a spa treatment. Maulu Spa offers indulgent massages and body wraps either in their stunning clifftop massage parlour or at your accommodation – you choose. Learn more in Niue with The Best Spas in Niue.
Day 3 – Hit the Bike Trails
An affordable activity that will have you spending plenty of time away from the “crowds” (as if there are crowds in Niue), the Niue bike trails are yours today!
There are four official bike trails taking in a mix of coastal roads, where you can stop off for a swim along the way, and bush trails heading deep into the forest where very few tourists go. You’ll find bike trails easily accessible from hotspots, like Alofi, as well as trails all the way in the remote east coast of the island. See some of your options in The Best Bike Trails in Niue and find out Where to Rent Bikes in Niue.
Day 4 – Do a Private Fishing Charter and/or Some Bar-Hopping
Keep ahold of your bike for today if you want to do a cheaper alternative to a fishing charter (or as well as a fishing charter, because you will certainly have time).
Start your day watching the sunrise as you troll, jig and pop for Niue’s highly-sought game fish. In Niue, fishing is part of everyday life, where you too can get in on the fishing action is with a fishing charter. Join passionate guides that will share top fishing techniques for tropical waters to tackle the likes of mahimahi to wahoo. Some fishing charters will give you some of the catch to cook up at your accommodation, while others will take your catch to local restaurants for you to try later. Learn more in The Guide to Fishing in Niue.
What’s an adult-only holiday without a cocktail or two? Or several?! Spend the day (or the rest of the day, if you decided to go fishing) hiring a bike so you can enjoy the various watering holes around the island. For instance, head to All Relativf at the Swanson Complex, a cocktail bar serving up only the freshest and most photo-worthy cocktails. Then, ride into town to enjoy drinks at Vaiolama (on Thursdays), the Crazy Uga Cafe (on Wednesdays) or Pacific Way Bar (Thursdays/Fridays). Or you could follow a flat ride around the coast or cut over the hill to the Pool Bar of the Scenic Matavai Resort. See more suggestions for bars to visit in the 6 Best Bars in Niue.
Day 5 – Departure Day
This is when you realise you should have stayed much longer in Niue. You’ve only just begun to scratch its rocky limestone surface!
After checking in your bags at Hanan Airport in the morning, you’ll have time for a hearty breakfast in Alofi or to explore some of the west coast sea tracks before returning your car, if you hired one. Simply park it up at the airport, leave the keys in the car and catch your flight.
