Travel Documents, Forms and Paperwork You Need to Prepare for Niue

The most stressful part of going on holiday is making sure you haven’t forgotten anything, especially any important paperwork! You don’t want to be “that guy” who gets turned away at the airport or drilled at the border. You just want to hand over your papers and start sipping on cocktails already! Well, that can certainly be the case if you get everything prepared prior to departure. Luckily, we’ve put together just the guide to help. Scroll through our travel documents checklist and find out just what documents you need to travel to Niue.

Travel Documents Checklist: What Do I Need to Travel to Niue?

Check that you have this travel paperwork completed and available before your flight to Niue (with the exception of the Passenger Arrival Card which will be given to you on the plane):

  • Passport valid for no less than three months after arrival
  • Entry permit (if applicable – see below)
  • Flight ticket/booking information
  • Outbound/return travel ticket or booking information
  • Accommodation booking
  • Passenger Arrival Card
  • Travel insurance (optional)
  • Driver’s license (if hiring a vehicle)
  • Medical prescription (if applicable)
  • Marine Arrival and Departure Forms (if arriving by sailing boat)
  • Scuba diving certification/eCard (if applicable).

While having a paper copy of the above travel documents is recommended for a quick process through Niue Customs, we also recommend having an easy-to-access digital copy of these forms on your phone – even without internet access!

Passport for Entering Niue

One of the most essential travel documents you need for Niue is, of course, your passport.

Passports from around 40 countries are accepted for visiting Niue and will automatically grant you a Visitor Visa on arrival. Some nationals will need to supply an Entry Permit along with their passport. Passports must be valid for at least three months after the date of arrival in Niue. In other words, the date that you state on your Passenger Arrival Card.

Do You Need a Visa (Entry Permit)?

Nationals from around 40 countries do not need a visa to visit Niue, as a tourist permit is automatically granted upon entry as long as you meet the entry requirements. Nationals not from one of the visa-waiver countries must apply for an Entry Permit before arrival. Find out more in our guide, Niue Tourist Visa: Do You Need a Visa to Visit Niue?

If you are arriving in Niue on a permit for work, study or business, for example, you will need evidence of these types of visas. Find out more in How Long Can You Stay in Niue on a Visitor Visa?

Arrival and Departure Flight Tickets/Booking Information

Another important travel document for Niue is the paperwork for your flights to and from Niue.

Ticket/Booking Information for Your Arrival Flight to Niue

After booking your flight to Niue, you should have received an email detailing your booking reference, departure time, etc. This is sometimes called an “E-Ticket”. Print this out and save a digital copy so you can provide this to airport staff on check-in for your flight to Niue.

After check-in at the airport, you will be provided with a Boarding Pass, listing your name, seat number, etc. Don’t lose it!

Ticket/Booking Information for Your Departure Flight From Niue

In the same email, you should also have your return flight details (a return flight from Niue is a requirement of entry for visitors; Niuean nationals can book one-way flights). Again, make sure you have your booking information for your return flight, not only for checking in for your departure flight from Niue but as it is a mandatory entry requirement to have a valid outbound travel ticket.

See Niue Tourist Visa: Do You Need a Visa to Visit Niue? to learn more about entry requirements.

Passenger Arrival Card + Accommodation Details

On your flight to Niue, airline staff will hand out the Niue Passenger Arrival Card for you to complete and give to Customs on arrival. The travel documents already discussed in the guide, such as your passport and flight boarding pass, will provide you with all the information you need to complete the Passenger Arrival Card. One additional piece of information that you need to provide on the card is the details (or at least the name) of your accommodation in Niue.

The Passenger Arrival Card requires you to at least know the name of your accommodation if staying at a commercial accommodation. If you’re not staying in commercial accommodation, provide the address of your accommodation. Make sure you have this information readily available to complete the Passenger Arrival Card.

For more advice on completing the Passenger Arrival Card, head to What You Need to Know About the Niue Passenger Arrival Card.

Other Travel Documents You May Need for Niue

All of the documents detailed above are mandatory for travel to Niue unless stated otherwise. The following travel documents and paperwork are optional or only apply to specific situations.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance ensures financial cover in the event that travel plans need to be changed, theft or loss of personal items, you need medical attention, etc. Travel insurance policies cover (and don’t cover) a range of circumstances where you otherwise might have significant expenses. It is a personal decision to purchase travel insurance, so if you decide to go for it, make sure you have your policy paperwork and certificate.

Driver’s License

If you want to hire a vehicle in Niue, then you’re going to need your valid overseas driver’s license. Check out Can You Drive in Niue With an Overseas License? to see what driver’s licenses are accepted in Niue so that you can be issued a Niue Driver’s License at the Police Station.

Medical Prescription

If you’re bringing prescribed medication to Niue, be sure that you have evidence that the medication is prescribed to you. Usually, the original packaging for the medication with your name and doctor’s name is sufficient. But if you don’t have this available, a copy of your prescription or a doctor’s letter will suffice.

Arriving in Niue by Personal Boat/Yacht

Those arriving in Niue on a personal sailing yacht need to provide additional paperwork for entering and departing Niue. All of this is detailed in the Sailing Guide to Niue: Tips for Yachting.
