The Best Churches in Niue to Visit

Whether you’re religious or not, a fantastic insight into the Niuean culture is to experience a local church service. But which church should you go to? We go through the best churches in Niue to experience as a visitor in the list below.

Niue is a deeply religious country where almost all of the population are Christians. The main denomination on the island is Ekalesia Niue, while other denominations represented include Apostolic, Catholic, Jehovah’s Witness, Latter-Day Saints, Seventh-Day Adventist and more. Because most Niueans are members of the Ekalesia Niue church, thus having the most number of churches on the island, you will find that most churches on this list are of that denomination.

So experience a Niuean church service on a Sunday to hear the island’s stunning acapella singing and enjoy a spiritual experience.

5 Tips for Going to Church in Niue

  1. Wear respectable clothing – ideally, long pants and shirts for men and skirts/dresses that cover the knees and shoulders for women
  2. It’s usually customary for women to wear a dress hat for church (like the ones sold at the markets and craft shops). You’ll get the “good eyes” if you do! Otherwise, women visitors can still attend church services without a hat if they don’t have one
  3. Church services occur every Sunday, typically once in the morning at 9 am/10 am and once in the afternoon at 3 pm/4 pm
  4. It is not respectable to take photos inside the church while it’s in service – taking photos outside is perfectly acceptable though
  5. Have some small change available, known as offerings, to donate to the church; they will pass around a small bag for donations.
